Pottery Classes in Taghazout
After our hiking adventures, pottery is our new-born passion, and we’re so excited to share it with you!
To establish our pottery workshop, we decided to step away from the famous surf spots of Taghazout to a quieter, more peaceful space just outside the vibrant town of Aourir, along the road to Paradise Valley.
This is how 1020° Pottery Studio came to be—a place where you can slow down, connect with the earth, and discover the magic of turning raw clay into something beautiful.
Our Pottery Classes are for everyone—whether you’re a surfer looking for something to do on a flat day, a traveller eager to try something new, or simply someone who wants to get their hands dirty with mud.
Every Tuesday and Thursday, we invite you to join us for a 2.5-hour hands-on session, where you’ll learn the basics of ceramics and let your hands do the thinking.

By the end, you might leave with a piece crafted entirely by you!
For travellers looking for unique things to do in Taghazout Bay, our workshops offer something more than the usual experiences – a chance to create lasting memories in an ideal Moroccan landscape.
Why did we start this pottery workshop?
n our fast-paced world, we often forget to pause and connect with what’s real. For us, pottery started as a happy accident—a discovery during a visit to a workshop. We fell in love with the craft and spent time learning it before deciding to create our own space and share its beauty with others.
Taghazout is known for its waves, but we wanted to offer something different. For us, pottery isn’t just another activity; it’s a way to immerse yourself in an ancient craft that’s been practiced for thousands of years. From shaping clay with your hands to mastering the potter’s wheel, there’s something deeply satisfying about the process. And let’s be honest, there’s pure joy in getting your hands dirty in such an inspiring setting!
At 1020° Studio, we believe everyone has an artist within them, and our beginner-friendly workshops are designed to be welcoming and inspiring, even for those who have never touched clay before. Here, it’s all about experimenting, and watching your creativity take shape-creating art that tells your own story.
What to Expect in Our Pottery Classes
Our 2.5-hour pottery sessions offer a comprehensive introduction to the ceramic arts for just 350 DH per person. You’ll receive guided instruction covering the following aspects of the pottery-making process:
- Understanding Clay
Ever wonder where clay comes from? Before you start shaping your piece, you’ll first discover the origins of clay—how it’s sourced, processed, and transformed into the pliable material used for pottery.
And did you know that clay starts as raw earth, carefully extracted from quarries and refined for use? Gaining insight into this process not only deepens your understanding for the craft but also strengthens your connection to the art of handmade pottery.
- Wedging
After selecting your clay, the next step is wedging! This essential step removes air bubbles and ensures even consistency, making it much easier to shape on the wheel. Our instructors will demonstrate the technique and guide you as you practice it yourself.
- Centering
At the core of wheel throwing is centering—the act of perfectly aligning the clay with the spinning wheel head. Though it may feel challenging at first, centering is a practice in patience and precision. With expert guidance, you’ll find the rhythm and balance, so you can confidently begin your creative journey.
- Shaping Simple Pots
Once your clay is centered, you’ll learn to pull up walls and craft basic forms like bowls or small cylinders. perfection isn’t the goal—every piece you create carries its own story, and imperfections often add charm and personality. We’ll guide you through smoothing, slicing, moisture control, trimming, and detailing, helping you build confidence and refine your skills over time.
Throughout the session, we will provide you with a variety of tools and their uses, leaving with a solid foundation in the essentials of pottery.

A Day at 1020° Studio: Pottery at Taghazout and Agadir
When you arrive at 1020° Studio, your instructor welcomes you, checks the clay to make sure it’s just right, and walks you through what to expect.
At first, the clay feels unfamiliar—cool, damp, maybe even a little stubborn. The wheel starts spinning, and you try to center your piece. It wobbles. You try again. And then, with persistence, you find the rhythm. The clay begins to rise smoothly under your hands. Even on the tougher attempts, there’s something deeply satisfying about shaping that lump of earth, watching it take form.
Maybe you’re making a simple bowl. Your hands are covered in clay, your clothes a bit messy, and you lose track of time. Then, when you finally step back, you realize—you made something real. Something imperfect, yet uniquely yours.
